Al-Sisi addresses promoting cooperation with EU Commissioner

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with the European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, in Cairo, Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said.

The meeting was held with the participation of Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry. Al-Sisi and Mimica addressed international and regional issues of common interest.

During the meeting, Al-Sisi emphasised enhancing cooperation and mutual dialogue with the EU in order to face common challenges in the region.

The president also stressed Egypt’s keenness on consulting with the European Commission over initiatives aiming to achieve the African Union (AU)’s development goals according to the AU 2063 agenda.

For Mimica, he stressed the strength of the historical relations between Egypt and the EU, asserting that Cairo is a key player in maintaining stability and security in the Mediterranean region. He also asserted the EU’s readiness in bolstering cooperation with Egypt at different levels to confront challenges within the Mediterranean region.

Mimica also praised Egypt’s efforts in achieving goals of sustainable development as well as its aim to fight terrorism and illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Mimica hailed Egypt’s plans in its AU presidency, and looked forward toward promoting cooperation especially in the fields of economic and social development.
