The United Kingdom’s (UK) Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Egypt Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, plans to meet with Minister of Finance Mohamed Moeit, Minister of Public Enterprise Hesham Tawfik, Minister of Health Hala Zayed, Minister of Planning and Administrative Reform Hala Al-Said, Minister of Petroleum Tarek El Molla. and Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, throughout his current visit to Egypt.

Sir Donaldson is in Egypt for a five-day visit, accompanied by leading British companies in future-focused sectors such as finance, technological education, and health, in order to build new ties between the UK and Egypt in these fields, according to the British embassy’s statement in Egypt.

This is Sir Donaldson’s eighth visit to Egypt in two years in his capacity as a trade envoy. During these visits, over 100 British companies have accompanied him, to scope out new trade and partnership opportunities.

“We kicked off 2018 with the largest British delegation in Egypt in two decades, and my visit this week is building on that momentum and laying the groundwork for further cooperation in future-focused and job-creating sectors,” said UK Trade Envoy Sir Donaldson.

The British-Egyptian trade relationship is worth £3bn and continues to grow.  The past year has seen a number of high profile announcements, including an EGP 1.7bn investment in the Benban solar project, a new production facility for SEWS company, and a joint-venture industrial complex for high quality medical supplies. Meanwhile, British Petroleum has invested $30bn to date, and aims to triple production in the next decade.

Moreover, the newly appointed British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams said, “this is an exciting time to have returned to Egypt, and it is wonderful to be back here and reconnect with people and places that hold a special place in my heart.  The talent and potential of the Egyptian people are still at the centre of this country, and the UK as Egypt’s top economic partner knows how important it is to invest in this talent and support Egypt’s success.”
