Kabil heads Egyptian delegation at Egyptian-Russian joint committee meeting

Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil is heading Egypt’s delegation at the meetings of the joint Egyptian-Russian committee for trade and economic cooperation in its 11th session held from 21-23 May.

Kabil said that the session will discuss several topics, including cooperation in the field of economy, trade, industry, energy, education, agriculture, communications, IT, health, transportation, and tourism.

Kabil pointed out that the committee will also discuss the Russian industrial zone in Egypt project, which is a top priority on the committee’s agenda, alongside eliminating non-customs obstacles which stand in the way of trade between the two countries, in addition to facilitating the procedures of medication registration, and Egyptian fish exportation to Russia.

The committee will also continue negotiations on the return of Russian tourism to Egypt and the resumption of direct flights between Egypt and Russia, in addition to studying establishing an advanced technological industrial plant in Egypt, in cooperation with the Tabbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies and the Moscow Institute for Steel and Alloys.

On the sidelines of the committee, the minister will hold a series of bilateral meetings with several Russian officials, including Veronika Nikishina, the minister for trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), and Denis Mantrouv, the minister of trade and industry of the Russian Federation. Additionally, an extensive meeting will be held with several major Russian companies interested in investing in the Russian industrial zone in Egypt.

The preparatory committee began its proceedings on Sunday. The Egyptian side was headed by Ahmed Antar, the head of the Egyptian Commercial Service.

Developing and expanding trade exchange between the two parties came as a priority in the discussions of the Russian side. The importance of eliminating all obstacles standing in the way of exportation between both countries was stressed.

Additionally, the importance of enhancing joint cooperation in the field of exhibitions was stressed through facilitating the participation of companies in the fairs taking place in both countries, in addition to establishing logistical centres for Egypt in Russia, which will contribute to increasing logistical exports to the Russian market.
