Veteran journalist Ibrahim Nafea dies at 84

Veteran journalist and writer Ibrahim Nafea died on Sun- day in Dubai where he was being hospitalised, at the age of 84 years old.

He suffered from cancer and received treatment in the last months.Nafea was born in Suez in 1934 and obtained a Bach- elor’s Degree in Law in 1956 from Ain Shams University. He started his career working for Reuters, and then worked in state-owned newspaper Al-Aharm until he assumed the position of the newspaper’s editor in chief. He quit his position in 2005.

Nafea is one of the Mid- dle East’s most important journalists due to his close relations with decision- makers in the Arab and Muslim world. He inter-

viewed several Arab and International leaders, and had daily editorials and commentary analysing contemporary social and geopolitical events.

He was the head of the Press Syndicate for several years.

His body will be trans- ferred to Egypt, where he is to be buried in his home- town.
