2.6% growth in passenger traffic at airports during June

Passenger traffic grew by 2.6% in all local airports through June. According to statistics issued by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN), the traffic reached 1.9 million passengers during June, compared to 1.8 million passengers in the same month last year.

Passenger traffic at Cairo International Airport declined by 16.5% to 1 million passengers, down from 1.2 million passengers.

The number of passengers at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport increased by 107% to register 141,000 passenger versus 68,000 passengers in June 2016. As for Hurghada International Airport, passenger traffic has increased by 50% to 318,000, up from 154,000 passengers.

At Borg El-Arab Airport, tourism traffic dropped by 9.5% to 216,000 passengers versus 239,000 in June 2016.The statistics came to show that Marsa Matruh airport received 1,492 passengers during the same month, and El Alamein airport received 246 passengers, up from no traffic at all in June 2016.

The airports of Saint Catherine, Arish, Dakhla, and Taba are still not receiving aircraft. On the movement of aircraft in all airports, the report stated that Egypt saw movement of 20,000 aircraft, in June 2017, up from 19,600 in the same month of last year, an increase of 4.7%.

The traffic at Cairo International Airport declined to 11,600, down from 12,300, marking a drop of 5.6%. In Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, however, the movement of aircraft increased by 67.5% in June to reach 1,400 aircraft, up from 854 in the same month in 2016. At Hurghada airport, aircraft traffic grew by 92.9% in June 2017, marking 2,455 aircraft, up from 1,273 in June 2016.
