The prices of automobile oil have increased by 4% in the past few days, and the price of passenger car filters have increased by 10%, both resulting from the increase in the US dollar exchange rate—which affects importing the requirements for production.

Sales director at Al Barkah International Ltd for automobile oil trade, Ahmed Mohamed, said that the US dollar exchange price increase in the past period increased the price of automobile oil and filters. The oil prices increased by roughly 4% and the filters by 10%, which negatively affected the monthly sales of the company—the sales of both declined equally.

As a result of these changes, car owners have begun to prolong the period between oil changes. They have started to change the oil when their cars reach 8,000 km, instead of 5,000 km.

Mohamed explained that the price of Fesco oil 3000 is roughly EGP 120 per gallon and sustains a car for 10,000 km to 15,000 km, while the price of Shell’s yellow oil is roughly EGP 120 and sustains the car for 5,000 km.

The price of Mobil super oil reached EGP 68 and it powers the car for 1,500 km to 2,000 km, while the price of Mobil 1 oil reached EGP 260 and powers the car for 10,000 km to 15,000 km.

Mohamed noted that the US dollar price increase led to a 10% increase in the prices of passenger car filters. Fiat filter prices reached EGP 13.5, Peugeot filter prices EGP 13.5, Mercedes filter price reached EGP 45, Daewoo filter price EGP 35, Toyota filter price reached EGP 25, and Lancer filter price reached EGP 30.

Mohammed Ramadan, owner of Heliopolis institution for automobile oil, said that the US dollar price increase caused the motor oils price increase due to the high prices of the raw materials used in oil production.
