Renowned journalist and human rights activist Hossam Bahgat was banned from travelling on Tuesday. He was supposed to travel to Jordan to participate in the United Nations meeting on Justice in the Arab World, according to a post on his Facebook account.

At the airport, Bahgat found that his name was on a no-fly list by order of the general prosecutor.

The journalist was detained for four days in November by military prosecutors on charges of “publishing false news” which allegedly threatened  national security.

According to Bahgat, he was able to travel two times following his release from detention.

Bahgat is a contributor at Mada Masr, the founder of local NGO Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), and recipient of the Human Rights Watch Alison Des Forges Award in 2011.
